If vegetable oil is starting to go rancid, you can repurpose it as a nail and hair strengthener. Consuming rancid oil is not dangerous, but it might cause some minor digestive issues.
Shelf Life of Different Types of Olive Oil
- Extra virgin olive oil, light fruity, lasts about a year.
- Medium fruity oil can last for two years.
- Intense fruity oil can last up to three years.
Shelf Life of Sunflower Oil
Sunflower oil no longer has a shelf life of 18 months due to changes in European laws in 2015 regarding oil storage regulations.
Expired olive oil can be used for frying or cooking at high temperatures. If stored properly and shows no signs of spoilage, it can still be used in the kitchen.
Consuming oil past its expiration date does not harm health. Oil does not improve with time and should be consumed within 12/18 months of production.
Sunflower oil is used in cooking and cosmetics. Rich in vitamin E, it is an excellent skin soother and helps maintain healthy skin.
Smell the oil: if you detect scents of olives, grass, fruits, and vegetables, your oil is likely good. Good olive oil should have a medium-low viscosity and a slightly bitter and pungent taste.
